You are invited to experience a contemplative practice rooted in the Christian tradition, which can be integrated into our daily lives.
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10. Centering Prayer is a form of Christian contemplative prayer, in which one abides in the Presence of God in interior silence. Centering Prayer emphasizes the indwelling Presence of the Holy Trinity through receptive silence and restful surrender, to God's action and healing grace.
This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship and a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with Christ.
Fr. Thomas Keating O.C.S.O. describes Centering Prayer as a receptive method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer. In this prayer we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. This way of praying in silence opens our hearts and minds to consent to God’s presence and action beyond words, responding to the call of the Holy Spirit.
Do any of these questions resonate with you?
The Centering Prayer Introductory Workshop familiarizes participants with the method of Centering Prayer and its conceptual background and offers two opportunities to experience the prayer. All are welcome. Whether you are new to Centering Prayer or you want to renew your practice.
